Ask HN: Sources of reasonably priced EV code signing certs?

3 pointsby jwdeque6 months ago
We've been with Digicert since the mid '00s, just when they were starting up, but they have finally circled completely down the drain. They now default to a monthly subscription that ends up costing over $800 a year for an EV Code Signing cert. In comparison our last renewal with them was at around $180 /yr, so the jump in price is completely unhinged and mind-boggling.
Where do you all source your EV certs these days?
Would love to hear about any good and bad experiences. If you have connections with sensible sales people, would appreciate those too.

Side question: Is this still a thing? I remember getting EV certs back around 2016 when they were still kind of in vogue, but I haven't heard anything about them in quite a few years. Do browsers even treat them differently anymore? We don't even see the SSL padlock anymore, or the green checkmark thing that used to be there.
