Show HN: Project Tirtha – Crowdsourced 3D modeling of cultural heritage sites

3 pointsby boltzmann646 months ago
Greetings HN,
Project Tirtha is an open-source project and an academic initiative for creating 3D models of heritage sites using crowd-sourced images. The goal is to preserve and showcase the beauty and cultural significance of heritage sites by allowing general public to contribute to the creation of these 3D models.
Previously, we have experimented using Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) and Structure-from-Motion (SfM) to build the models. Currently, we rely on Gaussian Splatting.
The website loads both on phones and on desktop. Please be patient while the models load, as some of the models are large and take some time to download.
The right sidebar contains the names of temples that are currently available. On the left you can see the model statistics with different versions of the model as we get more and more images to refine it.
The source code can be found at: https://github.com/smlab-niser/tirtha-public
I will be happy to answer any questions and appreciate feedback/suggestions regarding the project. :)
