DevRel never lived. It was a fancy title for "Technical Writer/Marketer" that got accidentally turned into a career in the same way Data Science did. As the article mentions, VC "long term" investment and the assumption that DevRel = conversions was what sunk the ship for everyone.<p>If companies wanted DevRel to live then they wouldn't have turned them into door-to-door salesmen and cold-callers. The nice and politically correct answer is that the job doesn't make sense in this economy, but I'd argue people never knew what they wanted in the first place.
