DevRel never lived. It was a fancy title for &quot;Technical Writer&#x2F;Marketer&quot; that got accidentally turned into a career in the same way Data Science did. As the article mentions, VC &quot;long term&quot; investment and the assumption that DevRel = conversions was what sunk the ship for everyone.<p>If companies wanted DevRel to live then they wouldn&#x27;t have turned them into door-to-door salesmen and cold-callers. The nice and politically correct answer is that the job doesn&#x27;t make sense in this economy, but I&#x27;d argue people never knew what they wanted in the first place.
