Can confirm. Prior Authorization is an entirely artificial barrier erected by insurance companies, and in fact touted as a "a viable option for increased revenue generation if the plan sponsor opts in to a high-touch plan".
A high-touch plan being implemented as the sane process of getting the insurer (who is the progenitor of the signal), to reach out to the prescriber instead of causing the customer, pharmacy, and prescriber to all have to reach out and get through the insurer's artificial barriers.
I have literally argued with CxO's over this, and it was a major contributor in my decision to leave the sector. It is simply irredeemable in it's current, perversely incented/manapged state, and until the sociopaths at the top are convinced to move on, there is no hope. Prior Auth is being weaponized against the population entrusted to it's care, rather than pushing on pharma manufacturers to lower prices.
