Definitely an issue. For me, running services privately and often experimenting, it us about having clean uninstslks, and about avoiding mutual interference with common libraries. Both of these would be addressed by static linking.<p>That said: given the modern tendency to use zillions of libraries, which in turn use zillions more: statically linked programs would tend to be huge.
