Ask HN: What's it like being an American employee of ByteDance?

Until recently it seemed like nobody thought this ban would come to fruition.
It still may not, or may not be in place for long, but it’s getting very close. Particularly if your career is involved.

First time you go through this kind of stuff it feels a bit crazy. There is too much daily rumor and speculation. You see good friends leaving every other day etc.
But if you have been through multiple M&A/boom bust cycles (especially with well known firms) it is not as crazy it is seems. Severance/relocation packages are really great, and HR of every other firm in the land is bombarding your inbox/linkedin. So the sky is not falling.
When the software you work on is being used all across the world, not just the US, doesn't really matter which location you are sitting in or whats happening in boardrooms. People in the boardroom get replaced. Sign boards and letterheads change. The beat goes on.
