My son (12) and I had an amazing time in SFO. We’re baseball fanatics and are slowly visiting all of the parks… we caught a few games. One day we walked from South Beach and Oracle Park and walked along the shoreline to the Golden Gate Bridge. Then went through the park and took the bus back from somewhere near Golden Gate Park. We did the cable car and went to Chinatown before heading back. The farmers market at the ferry terminal is awesome too.
Our last day we had a redeye home… we stored our bags at the hotel and took the N line from Caltrain all the way to Ocean Beach. It was beautiful out there, and we spotted some places to check out on the way back.
Honestly, it’s a great city to explore. That was one of my favorite trips. Have fun whatever you do.

The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment is on the other side of the Bay in Oakland and accessible by BART. Take note that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
https://www.themade.org/
I used to enjoy visiting the Japanese section, probably shrunken due to high rents since then. It was like a foreign tour without the tour. I of course loved the Japanese hardware store.
If you visit Union Square, look poor.
And if you're a movie buff, visit some of the movie scenes of Vertigo, its takeoff, High Anxiety and many others. I offered my daughter a movie scene tour of the city.
Steeple scenes were filmed in Mission San Juan Bautista, south of the south bay.
Golden Gate Park is very nice. Japanese Garden (bring a camera or nice phone ) and Conservatory, Bison, Academy of Sciences, windmills,de Young museum, a flycasting pond, and more.
https://sfrecpark.org/1116/Golden-Gate-Park-Points-of-Intere...
You missed the monster surf at Mavericks.
