The closing longevity gap between BEVs and ICE vehicles in Great Britain

I wasn't quite sure what "longevity" meant here. It does in fact mean how many years you can drive the car. Key line from the abstract:
Here we show that although early battery electric vehicles (BEVs) exhibited lower reliability than internal combustion engine vehicles, rapid technological advancements have allowed newer BEVs to achieve comparable lifespans, even under more intensive use.
I had thought that BEVs were likely to be very reliable, since they have so few moving parts. I know that the battery life was a potential limiting factor, but car engines are also limited.
My ICE vehicles tend to get to about 300k miles before requiring repairs that are more expensive than replacement. It's usually the engine, and sometimes the transmission, neither of which battery vehicles have.
If it's solely a matter of build quality... well, that should be a fixable problem.
