End of life is so massively badly handled sometimes. One Parent in Law had major anxiety meds withdrawn at end stage, which must have been catastrophically cruel. (Weren't in a formulation to hand which would work in the pump, could not be given orally, consulting psych unavailable). She had expressed repeatedly how scared of death, dying she was. The other had a hand written advanced health directive which the surgeon refused to recognise and so he indulged himself in heroic attempts at recovery after a failed stent op caused a brain event. He totally disintegrated as a person, dissociated in front of our eyes over 4 days. The hand note was clear it was dignity of person which mattered to him most.
Get a proper advanced health directive, get it legally done with doctors and witnesses, and check your med dependencies before hitting the hospice.
(This was 20+ years ago)
