This might be bad for individual professions but an overall positive for humanity as a whole. The number of people paying for translators pales in comparison to those who want good-enough translations but do not have access to them.<p>Google translate is nothing compared to what LLMs have managed to do.<p>Sanskrit is one of my current interests. For centuries, it has been trapped between academia, rituals and an indifferent education system. There are people who still blog in Sanskrit or write books in the language, but, again, the output is minuscule compared to English or any of the big Indian languages.<p>LLMs let me read English classics in Sanskrit. That IS something.
