Ask HN: Why Does Supabase Charge $75/Mo for SMS OTP Authentication?

2 pointsby throwawayaghas13 months ago
I've been trying to find an answer to this for a while now. I pay for the Pro plan of Supabase and am confused around their thought process for gating SMS OTP for passwordless login around a $75/mo charge when you are also providing the Twilio credentials. It's essentially using an Edge function to call Twilio and ensure it's the correct OTP before allowing sign-in..

In tech, the price of something does not correlate to the cost of that thing. It more closely correlates with how much they can get away with charging, which is some arbitrary multiple above the cost of something in order to make an Excel formula work.

A tax to discourage poor MFA methods?
