The Heat Is On: Why Bananas May Become a Rare and Expensive Treat

> A study from the University of Exeter, published today (March 6) in Nature Food, warns that by 2080, growing bananas for export may no longer be economically viable in many parts of Latin America and the Caribbean. Climate change is driving temperatures higher, making conditions less suitable for banana cultivation.
> The study also highlights major socioeconomic barriers to adaptation, including limited access to infrastructure and labor shortages. Because most banana farms are located near population centers and ports, relocating to cooler areas is not a simple solution.
> The industry is dominated by multinational corporations...
While things may go poorly for the countries currently exporting bananas, I'd bet that those multinational corporations will keep growing bananas, at scale.
(If you're unfamiliar with the industry's "do whatever it takes" reputation - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Fruit_Company )

I stopped eating bananas, as they look perfect, but taste like mold. Now eat whatever fruit looks and smells good. Stopped eating potatoes as they often have a bit of tabbaco taste/smell, due to neo nictinoids or relationship to tobbacco, or it bieng franken food, I dont know, but I can taste it, bleack, pbbbtbbbbbth. Lucky to have a vibrant imigrant population, who bring in stuff from the home country, so grocerie shopping, is a bit like a world tour, plus the local only shops have stuff never seen in the chain stores. And like who cares? Banannas? There is still 50 thousand other things to eat.

Good, I suppose, given our colonial history of dominating and exploiting people and land to grow bananas to ship to the USA. I tend not to buy them even if they're cheap. Fortunately I'm in Washington state and there are so many delicous apples.
