I really hope this person is wrong. My son is too young now, but I can't wait to take my son to the movies... A lot, when he's old enough. I've thought about building a theater room at home, but "going to the movies with friends" seems like such a formative experience, it's super sad to me if it's gone.
This is such crap. It's just like the Replit CEO saying that software engineering is dead, or Altman saying AGI is imminent. They're stating a version of the future that they would like to appear because that would be the best outcome for their businesses.<p>But in reality movie theatres are in no way dead. People like the experience of going to a theater with friends, buying yummy snacks, watching a giant screen with really high volume. Seeing the interstellar relaunch last winter reminded me of just how LOUD the movie is, that's something you just can't get with 99% of setups people watch movies on at home.
