I had to look this up but “Hall effect sticks” are a new generation of joy cons that are going into the Xbox and PS5 controllers, Nintendo here is choosing to use an older technology that was more susceptible to joy con drift. Folks are worried the switch 2 will experience the same issue cause they didn’t upgrade the joycons.
