For years I’ve been pressured to have an answer to the question right there, on the spot, no matter what. Interviews drill that into candidates (rote memorization prioritized over critical thinking), the “Agile” methodology and ceremonies tech companies adopt (in part, never in whole) force it, and modern leaders demand it.
And look, just because my OCD means I can answer it in the moment, doesn’t mean I want to. I want to take time to solicit feedback, and talk with my colleagues, and sleep on a decision. It just feels like careful decision-making and feedback cycles are antithetical to the modern “why wasn’t this done before I heard about it in my leadership magazine” business world.
