Sony has lost what made it special

Humm... they lost their exclusive contract?<p><a href="http://xkcd.com/533/" rel="nofollow">http://xkcd.com/533/</a>

It seems like "buy a media company" = "jump the shark" for manufacturing companies. Does anybody have any good exceptions to this rule of thumb?
