Location based services vs. Maslow hierarchy of needs

1 pointsby f_gergoover 12 years ago
According to the model of Maslow's hierarchy of needs until a lower level need is not satisfied we don't strive to fulfill any higher level needs. Unlike the majority of internet based services managing information related to levels 3, 4, 5 (belongingness/love, esteem, self-actualization), a location based service (LBS) manages information strongly related to Maslow 2nd level needs (security).
Like all models the Maslow model has to have errors. My question is possibly related to this error:
Privacy of physical location is strongly related to security. Assuming your were to use a a genuinely useful LBS, if you _had to prioritize_ what would your priorities be, usefulness or privacy? Can you imagine any scenario where a higher level need would override any security related need? If yes, can you describe such a scenario or possibly more?
