Ask HN: Before I recommend Squarespace is there anything I should know?

3 pointsby Articulatealmost 12 years ago
Among other things my company does content creation and often get asked to help add pages to a website to explain a product or service. I often have to send my content to my client’s webmaster to upload, resize, choose fonts orient the pictures etc which is not super efficient and adds layers of complexity. My clients are completely non-technical and I am not much better but these platforms make it so both my client and I can write new pages, move stuff around, add photos- it seems like a good solution. So I have started recommending my clients move to Squarespace or Virb etc.<p>This has really upset some web companies who have told my clients I am recommending an unreliable product. I don’t want to recommend something that isn’t right for my clients but most of them have very simple sites that don’t need a sophisticated CMS. I think that Squarespace is 10 times easier to use than Wordpress, Joomla, or a custom system but are there things I am not considering or something I should be careful about when recommending these options?
