These days, software rots faster then hardware

2 pointsby itryover 11 years ago
When I was a kid, I always was looking forward to new computers because of the hardware. I was saving for an Amiga because it was so much more powerful then my C64. Then my dream was a 286. Then a 486. Then a notebook because of the form factor. Then a more powerful notebook. Etc.
But my recent hardware purchases weren't because of the hardware. But because of the software. How crazy is that?
I bought a new phone because new apps did not work on the ancient android on my old HTC. And now Im buying a windows tablet, because neither my iPad nor my Android tablets let my freely choose the software I run on them. Even though I would prefer the iPad hardware with a linux os.
