Canadian Interac e-mail money transfer system meltdown

1 pointsby ryanwealover 11 years ago
Interac is the name of the debit card system in Canada and over the past few years they have added an an email money transfer service (run by Certapay, branded by Interac). They don't ever hold any money, but rather, initiate transfers between banks. Transactions usually complete within 1-4h of sending the money.
The system went down on October 1, came back up October 2 (briefly), and has stayed down all day. It might be coming back up now. Customer complaints are high and there is evidence of some very stressed out developers.
There are many developer reveals in the twitter feed right now. Here is one example:
"No precise ETR yet but efforts continue to deploy a work around solution. Hope to make available this evening." (4:51 PM - 2 Oct, 13).
Work-arounds are never fun. Good luck to whomever you devs are working on this. Crisis dev for banks. Stress.
In the meantime, there is some interesting info about how this system works in the feed that people here might be interested in:
https://twitter.com/INTERAC
