There are many opinions about the right amount of sleep you need. But more than that it's quite interesting to see when everybody is starting their workday to get things done, have a workout before heading to the desk, ...

After 10 AM it is.
Following various events in highschool, I ended up with a fucked-up sleep schedule. I'm generally fine with 6-7 hours of sleep, but unless they're from 3 AM to 10 AM, I'm useless. Even this is more or less socially and workplace-unacceptable, so during weekdays I wake up at 08:30 or so. I end up very tired on Friday evening and have to make up for the lost valuable sleep during the weekend, but I can function. Factoring in breakfast and stuff, plus the 30-minute walk to work (I insist on doing the walking -- I could save 10-15 minutes using public transportation but I actually want to walk), I usually start coding around 10:30.
For about six years I wrestled with this, along with my very supportive physician. Eventually I gave up; two or three times I managed to get into a more or less early rising routine (waking up around 6 AM), but not only did it make me miserable, it also didn't last long. One all-nighter (and I had plenty of those during in university) or one lazy weekend day that didn't make me so tired at 23:00 that I could have fallen asleep on an airplane engine was enough to fuck up my sleep schedule again.
