So I've (unfortunately) had to spend a lot of time losing weight at various points in my lifetime, and one tip I hear repeated is: don't tell people you're going to lose weight, just do it and talk about it after.<p>From Reddit's /r/loseit FAQ:<p>"A word of warning however, don't announce to the world that you're just getting started. This leads to what is called the Gollwitzer effect, where people reward themselves for achieving something that they haven't yet because they've told people what they intend to do. Unfortunately this psychological reward lowers the chance of achieving their goals in the first place. Get started, give it a few weeks, and then let us know."<p>I've noticed a strong parallel with our daily morning scrums: after I say I'm going to do something that day, I lose motivation to do it. I got much more done when we didn't have daily stand-ups. Anyone else with this issue?
