Ask HN: (UK) Is there any way around a non-compete clause?

2 pointsby acron0over 10 years ago
So, I work as a manager for pretty large player in industry X. I have received a job offer for a developer position, from a start-up in industry X. My current non-compete clause is hella broad ("can't work, directly or indirectly, for any organisation in industry X") and lasts 6 months but I am desperate to bail. Desperate.
Is there anything I can do...? A lot of people are telling me "Oh, they're unenforcable!"...but what if they are? I can't afford being sued.
