I've been thinking about the next "industries" to be disrupted, especially with advancements in things like machine learning and AI.
One area I think that is a big employer, but could be disrupted by advancements in voice recognition and AI, is call centers and Customer Service Reps (CSRs). It's been a few years already since IBM's Watson won Jeopardy, and Siri and Cortana are getting quite good. It seems like technology like that could make the CSR role obsolete, or at least drastically change their toolset.
So, I thought I'd throw it out there to HN. Do you think call centers and CSRs will still be around in 5 to 10 years? Will CSRs fall victim to "machines taking jobs"?
