Ask HN: What cheap options do I have for servers/VMs WITH private network?

2 点作者 yannovitch大约 9 年前
Hello HN,
I would like to be able to deploy CoreOS+Kubernetes on a cluster of (at least 3-4) VMs/servers, with the ability to grow and scale out the cluster later. The budget of the startup for the first few months is 50€ / month.
For my Kubernetes cluster, I need to have on each server not only a public IP but a private IP too,in order to be able to run on top of the private network an overlay network like Flannel (which by the way do not support IPv6 (yet) so no need to suggest IPv6).
/!\ I have the constraint of NOT using an american service like Amazon AWS or Google Cloud Platform (or Linode, Digital Ocean, ...) , because of the Patriot Act and because of the data and privacy laws in Europe
OVH do not have yet private network for their VMs (but I heard their private network "vRack" offer is coming soon to their PublicCloud VMs). And they only offer private network with their professional line which start at 60€/month, so 3 of them ~200€ per month >> too expensive.
I know Online.net/Scaleway offers private network on their Baremetal servers, and running at the beginning 3-4 x C2s would allow me to keep the cost under 50 bucks (which is my goal for the first few months). However, their baremetal offering is based on Avotron CPUs, which I would prefer to avoid, because what I develop runs much better on Xeon CPUs. They offer private network with servers starting at 30€/month, so 3 of them ~100€/month, still too expensive for the startup I work with.
I know I could just order a dedicated server, install a virtualization solution like Proxmox/Openstack on top of it, and then run within few NATed VMs, but I really would prefer to avoid that because it's not scalable at all, not HA at all, and it calls for a disaster ;)
As such, I don't know of any European provider offering an affordable solution for several servers/VM with a private network.
Do you ?
Best regards, Y
