An excerpt of an email from At-large CM David Grosso, member of the Council of the District of Columbia:
Today, I voted with my colleagues on the Council to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. Raising the minimum wage is a good thing, but is $15 per hour enough? Should it be $35 or $50 per hour? Without studying this in depth, we run the risk of implementing legislation that does not properly address the needs of all District of Columbia residents.
That is why I introduced an amendment to study how to implement a guaranteed minimum income system in the District of Columbia. The amendment was accepted as part of the minimum wage law. A minimum income system would provide residents with the financial assistance needed to cover basic needs such as transportation, education, housing, and child care.
And a DCist story about the CM's amendment (among other things): http://dcist.com/2016/06/diverse_coalition_minimum_wage.php
