Ask HN: Is there a rule for companies to avoid spamming by mistake

1 点作者 ben_utzer将近 9 年前
I am continously receiving promotional emails from an italian bank (Intesa Sanpaolo) that obviously has a "distracted" customer that gives away my email address by mistake. I get from time to time emails from friends of this guy, so I'm pretty sure he's doing it by mistake or people correct his misspelled email address by mistake. Receiving spam is bad, but what's infuriating is when a big company sends you their promotions and also add that dumb disclaimer on the bottom about spam and stuff. Apparently it's by law in Italy (I'm not sure, I don't live there).
My question is: Is there a rule or "law" that tell companies to use a more "complex" system to avoid this kind of mistakes? They should simply ask for a confirmation before activating all their campaign or internal emails. Without something as simple as that, they just dig themselves into problems, since people will start to flag them as spam.
