It's pretty straight forward to get people interested in products that have "better specs" like faster, smaller, cheaper, etc., but what advice would you give for getting people excited about a product that is new/better in subtle ways?
Not trying to plug the specific product I'm working on, but as an example consider a device that could quietly inform you about something fundamental to life (like the weather) and still work just as well 20+ years from now (i.e. No wifi, batteries, or moving parts). In the current landscape, other products can win on specs alone (any internet device can view detailed local weather reports), but the subtle differences between something that lasts a lifetime and quietly informs you vs a device you swap out every few years and demands your interaction seems significant.
I strongly believe that the subtle things can make the difference between great, lasting products and short-term excitement that fizzles, but selling subtlety seems incredibly hard because it's not as simple as just saying A is greater than B.
Any thoughts/advice about how to market such a product would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
