Is editing by pg and others enough or should the community be allowed to downvote in order to control the front page?

There shouldn't be a "negative vote", but there should be a way to retract your vote.

Honestly, not really loving this poll feature in general.<p>What does a down vote mean? "Do not want"? I'd personally be tempted to down-vote polls.

A third possibility: while a downarrow on stories would solve some problems, it would introduce others.

A down arrow is a way to punish people who don't do group-think. The best way to bury a lousy story is to up-vote good ones.
