The purpose is to see how well you communicate in writing -- an important skill for remote teams.<p>The second stage is a phone call to get to know you and a 1-hour work sample where you get to build a feature on a real-world git repo (no algorithms).<p>The final stage is a (paid) one or two-day project to implement a significant feature and interact with the team over Slack and Google Hangouts.
