Microsoft Surface Laptop ($999) and Windows 10 S unveiled

I understand why they did the fabric. Microsoft can't release a laptop with an aluminum unibody and Windows 10 on it and call it a Macbook killer. They have to do something innovative with the design. But if aluminum is taken and you plastic doesn't scream "high end," what do you do? Apparently you put fabric on it? I often balance my coffee on my Macbook, so I can only see this ending in stains and sadness.
