I've always found these pseudo-3D effects (including the slight "floating-icons" effect applied to iOS wallpapers) to be unconvincing in real life.<p>I suspect they look much better in demo videos like this because there's no depth information in the objects surrounding the phone either -- the person's hand, the floor/desk behind them, etc. This makes it much easier for one's brain to map "pseudo-depth" onto the entire video.<p>In real life, you have depth perception for everything except the images on your phone's screen, making a demo like this look "flat" even at its most convincing. Real 3D requires two distinct visual inputs; this is a gimmick.
