I find myself wasting lots of time a lots of sites these days mentally parsing the balance between the number of ratings vs the average rating. For instance right now, I'm right now trying to find a hostel in a city with tons of options, some have 3 reviews and 5.0/5 avg, while another has 2300 and 4.7 avg. The decision fatigue is real. I'm sure there's a method to combine the two numbers into one so I can only look at say, the top 3.<p>Something similar that I'm reminded of is in video game matchmaking, specifically in halo for me (I'm sure there's tons of other examples), where they would take into account not only how many wins you have but an uncertainty value based on how unsure they were about your actual rank.
