Three reasons:<p>- Self promotion (Hey check out this thing I just wrote/made)<p>- Facebook market. It's nice to have what is essentially a Craigeslist with a built in messenger (don't have to give my phone number/ email), that I can stalk who I'm buying from, and is easy enough to use that it gets high traffic. I've been doing this since before the market place when Facebook selling groups were everywhere.<p>- Event discovery/notification. A lot of smaller events don't seem to have email lists, or are bad at updating their website. The facebook event is normally up to date.<p>Beyond that I don't really pay attention to my feed, I don't actively add people, and I've only really talk to one person via it's messenger (he won't switch to something else).
Forums seem to have fallen out of style in favor of groups on FB. That's really the only reason why I use it. I follow certain niche groups and use their classifieds section heavily. Discord hasn't picked up for stuff I follow, so it's really my only option.<p>As far as actual FB usage is concerned, I use it maybe once a year to post something - if that. I rarely even use Messenger outside of the aforementioned groups aspect (communication for buying/selling, mainly). If friends or family need to contact me for anything meaningful, I have other mediums I use.
I post nothing to it anymore, and I keep every privacy setting locked down sharing nothing with anyone.<p>I use it to passively see what old school friends are up to around the world and occasionally use it connect with them to meet up when we are in the same neck of the woods.
Only one actually, to connect (if necessary in the future) with my old friends / classmates. I don't have most of their phone numbers or anything.
