Greetings,
I've been recently pondering my career options. I've been doing .NET since the beta. I've worked at a wide range of companies. However, in the last 4 years or so, I've started shifting my focus more with a desire towards helping smaller, scrappier companies handle scaling and finding product/market fit. I'm also one of the guys on The Complete Developer Podcast (https://CompleteDeveloperPodcast.com) and have spoken at a number of conferences and software schools. In addition, I have a book coming out in August through Apress. However, my non-meeting time at the day job is still nearly 85% coding, with the rest being system design.
So, my question is: Given how my focus has changed in the last 4 years, what should I be doing right now so that I can make a transition to something more suitable for the skills I've developed? My current job is ok, but recent events have made me realize that it is not the best long-term fit (and may actually be detrimental over the medium to long term). Should I look for another job that is more suitable? If so, what would that be? Or should I go in a different direction altogether?
tldr; Regular dev turned podcaster/speaker/etc., trying to figure out what to do now that I'm not "just" a dev, or at least don't want to be.
