What is Lean UX?
I think startups might care a lot more about it if you spent a bit more time describing what it actually is.

My background is in HCI and I didn't know that the practices of UX, interaction design, usability warranted the need of a lean(er) approach. But if more startups realize how important well-designed user experiences are, I'm a happy camper.
Also: gray serif set in a small size? The subpar typography makes the article very annoying to read.

As you've pointed out, the Luxi page was the advert for the workshop. If you're interested in the event that inspired @strandev's post, the slides are here: http://www.slideshare.net/clevergirl/luxi-for-designers.
Vivitek: the principles of lean ux (as we have them defined now) are on slide 55. Like agile, it is largely about how we work together, not what the work is.
Arkitaip: there is a slice of ux methods that work in a lean startup (tm) environment. But much of what we do in the UX field (and the HCI field) are heavyweight methods. I say this as the former ceo of Adaptive Path. See slides 57 and 58 for characteristics and examples.
Lylanm: I'm a fan of Jeff Patton, and was glad to hear his preso at the AUX Retreat in December. Did my first patton-style storymap last week.

I don't disagree with the overall message of the article, but those points don't sound like reasons to me, more like methods for achieving better UX.

This article sounded more like three reasons to go to that conference. Is there some kind of actual description of techniques that constitute Lean UX, or is it a methodology, or is it just a reason for me to pay somebody $800 for something? Because I'm not actually seeing any reasons to care. Yet. (I'm not saying they're not there; just that I'm not getting them out of this article. Sorry.)

I like the idea in general, but the main points seem to be (1) do BLAH, and (2) make sure you do BLAH in small steps while measuring it.
Point 2 should be obvious for any startup. I would like to hear more about point 1. For me to spend money taking any workshop there should be some useful takeaways that I can get a feeling of why the workshop would have been useful.

The UX world has struggled to find its best fit in Agile. At SIGCHI Montreal a few years ago, it was a big topic of discussion where pain points were discussed much more than proposed solutions. I like Jeff Patton's view on UX in Agile, which is in the same vein as the 3 points you wrote down.

They need to learn how to make a readable web page before lecturing anyone about 'Lean UX'...

After using my readability bookmarklet to turn this site into something I could actually read, I determined that this is just an advertisement for some conference or possibly buzzword.

Does "Lean UX" really include requiring DL of font "reeniebeanie" ?
Naivete disclosure: This is first time Safari has ever had to ask my permission to DL a web font.
