Longtime Hacker News contributor (and Saito founder) very happy to be able finally to disclose publically news of this Saito-powered COVID-19 blockchain procurement system that some members of our community are building:
http://org.saito.tech/blog/
This blog post discusses the details, explaining a bit about why (and how) supply chains are migrating on-chain. The short version is that what these industries need aren't smart contracts or digital money so much as public PKI networks capable of moving large amounts of data and a software infrastructure that allows for rapid application development.
As you can see if you visit the actual datahub, things are moving very quickly (pricing and supply issues are changing daily as well). If anyone needs to be sourcing this sort of equipment, I'd highly recommend the DHB team and suggest contacting them -- our focus on the tech side is making sure that their record of faultless delivery continues while ramping up product availability and bringing new equipment manufacturers online.
If anyone has questions about Saito or why it was chosen as the underlying platform I'd be happy to answer. Saito is known these days mostly for having the only known solution to the 51 percent attack in the blockchain space. I suspect that this will change in the coming months as people start to care more about the applications that are coming out on the network and move beyond thinking of blockchains as smart contract platforms and start to focus on them as large-scale and permissionless PKI networks.
Questions or comments or feedback welcome. Happy as always to be a member of the community.
--david
