There were a few announcements from big tech companies like Twitter, Facebook and Shopify of moving in the direction of "digital first" and implementing a WFH model for majority of the employees. I am already seeing a lot of conversation around how this can affect pays for people deciding to move to smaller cities and people in smaller cities getting a chance to work for great companies without needing to move, hence opening up opportunities for more people.
With the future of tech work being remote, this will naturally give companies a much larger pool of tech workers, both local and international. Should we be worried about local jobs getting outsourced to countries where labour is relatively cheaper compared to US or Canada? Why and why not?
For example, Shopify has opened up a Lithuania and soon a Warsaw office. Compared to the tech salaris in US, Eastern Europe is cheaper. If you go all the way to India and Pakistan, it get's slightly more cheaper. With increased globalization, international talent quality is bound to increase. What does it mean for the local tech job market in North America then?
