JPMorgans Athena has 35M lines of Python and wont be updated to Python 3 in time

Why is there a deadline? Is their code suddenly going to stop working?<p>JPMorgan is big enough to have an internal team to maintain Python 2.7 if they have to.

I have super mixed feelings about Athena. While it certainly helps JPM standardize app construction and deployment, like all standardized components it also strands the developers at JPM in the late 2000s. I estimate there are between 200-300mm lines of Python at JPM ;) Most of it badly written as long scripts and probably 80% of them use pandas, badly.
