I've been a consultant for over a decade and lately decided to take a job offer at a company that I genuinely like, but the problem is the language they use is one I've never used before. I disclosed that with them when I first applied for the position, and have learned a bit about it, but now I'm afraid that they'd get frustrated with me or fire me if I don't catch up quickly.
Does anyone have a similar experience, or any tips for me?
If they hired you knowing that you don't know their stack, you have to assume they are ok with giving you time to catch up.
I think your concern is whether or not they will give you enough time.
It seems like you should ask your manager how soon they expect you to be productive and take steps to be able to meet that goal.
If you know you can't meet that goal, then bring it up. It's better for both parties to not put off the inevitable.
If you don't know if you can meet that goal, then take all steps you can to help you meet that goal and then whatever happens happens.
