I've been watching for some time Mobie pay (https://mobie.io and https://mobiepay.io), and I've been wondering if the project has some merits. I'd love to hear what the HN crowd thinks.
Mobie is essentially a mobile app to pay, online and in stores. As per in store payments, they are partnering with other companies to integrate with existing POS. They will have widgets and extensions to pay online (sort of PayPal).
The main USP is that it will be possible to pay with most crypto (BTC, ETH, etc.), even if the store only accepts FIAT (USD, EUR, etc.). The app will automatically convert crypto to FIAT, I guess for a commission.
This last part I think is the most interesting. BTC billionaires/millionaires currently do not have a quick and easy way to spend BTC, so this could make it easy to liquidate their coins directly in stores.
There are also rewards, cashback and stuff like that.
All that is powdered by, also, their own coin, MBX, which lately has soared to an higher rate of BTC. MBX is based on stellar.
Since it's still trading in the 2-3 cents (0.02$) I am tempted to buy a bunch of MBX. Before doing so I'd love to know your opinion, especially since the HN crowd (including myself) is usually pretty critical of blockchain based projects.
