I'm in a good position (VP level) in a financial institution IT org. Promotion seems hard at this level (5 years or so).
I was offered a high paying FAANG job as senior individual contributor doing SRE. The money if about 50% more, nice relocation proposition, other perks. But given my age I wonder if there is life after 50 in FAANGs. I'm over 40, and after a rollercoster career I've learned to value some stability
I'm not nearly your age but discovered what it means to have a rollercoaster career.
Don't underestimate stability and the luxury to feel 'safe' in one place. If you fuck up once you don't have to be scared to sit on the street if you've been in the bucket for a long time already.
We usually don't get better with risk when we age.
SRE at one place is the same as any other. I'd only do it to experience
another part of the country. You're on the back nine of life after all. You
won't appreciate the change of scenery when you're 60.
