I took up birding as a new hobby during the pandemic. (Apparently this is a "thing" - aka lots of new "pandemic" birders.) I really got into it, and bird photography is a big part of it as well.
Anyway, knowing where best to find birds is always a question. eBird is an excellent resource, but I don't think it answers the most important questions as easily as it could.
- What birds can I expect to see in my area at this time of year? (e.g. What SHOULD I be on the lookout for?)
- Where can I best find a particular species in my area?
eBird provides a huge 100 GB data dump. I aggregated it for my purposes down into a 2+ GB SQLite database and created this website. It works for any region. Try it out!
