Ask HN: Advice for Analyzing Job Offers?

3 点作者 hentrep大约 4 年前
I'm currently interviewing for multiple opportunities in a non-traditional tech role (commercial biotech). I'm curious how you've all handled parallel interviews and job offers. I just received a fantastic offer from a company that I'm not incredibly passionate about, though it's clear a quality-of-life improvement over my current role. I have three other, more intellectually promising opportunities in the queue and feel confident about my prospects when those interviews come through next week.
Any recommendations for how I can respectfully delay this initial offer until I have a better feel for these other opportunities? I have great respect for the Hacker News audience and would appreciate any advice.

Remember that job offers get pulled all the time, and with that in mind I'd go ahead and accept the current offer, but let's say another offer comes through and it's a $50,000 pay increase.
Feel no shame about reneging on the first offer. This is a dog eat dog business, and the biggest mistake I probably have made in my career so far was not reneging for a better offer. I ended up miserable at a horrible company. Luckily I did reach roughly the same salary level within about 2 years, but that's 2 years of making $40,000 less than I could have.
Also, exploding offers are very rude in my opinion. No one should be pressured into accepting a job before they've been able to evaluate all their options
