UUIDs Are Popular, but Bad for Performance

I liked the article, but would also expect a version with an auto_increment integer ID, and an indexed UUID field. The ID can be used 'internally' - for joins and indexes, the UUID as external ID. Best of both worlds?

Simple: use PostgreSQL and enjoy native UUIDs.
