The cost of a single preorder is $99 so the preorders alone have raised ~$50M. The cost of the entire Starlink constellation is supposed to be $10B so the preorders alone have covered 0.5%. Given that 57.23 million people live in rural areas in the United States [1] and Starlink wants their business, I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more preorders. Perhaps the preorders won't pay for the cost of the constellation alone, but certainly, if the operating costs of Starlink are low, then this thing is going to be one heck of a money-printing machine.
1: https://www.statista.com/statistics/985183/size-urban-rural-...
