Right to Repair Laws Proposed This Year. Apple Have Ensured None Have Passed

Apple is not alone here, not by a long shot to be fair.
I grew up ignoring the old, "No User Serviceable Parts Inside" stickers and embossing that appeared as the vacuum tubes were displaced by solid state.
My car, computer, appliances, you name it were all reasonably easy to repair, and so I did and continue to do.
This weeks, "Amp Hour" podcast has Dave Jones talking about a device that has a fault, and how the soft power on routs through about 6 boards that cannot be connected on the bench, making it impossible to check voltages and do other basic tasks needed to repair.
I am on the side of repair. People find ways, and they should be doing that so other people have options that make sense instead of high cost, often high risk scenarios to contend with.
What may seem like high use value really isn't when those costs and risks are part of the equation. And many people do not grok this until after things happen.
We can and should do better.
