GitHub’s copilot — and all the other AI-driven copilots — have opened a new era in automation for humanity. Boilerplate code will be reduced to comments. Algorithms will be front and center. The uptake of new programming languages will be as easy as using an online English-Spanish translator. Everyone will have a copilot for any piece of software they use. These last four days, after watching the copilot developments — it is beyond my imagination the cascading effects of what’s to come. This video is amazing — https://youtu.be/4duqI8WyfqE — kids, ages 9 to 12, will code better than adults in their 30s... their comment imagination will be much more experimental than that of an adult, and when generics, reflection, multi-threaded algos can be summed up by comments, human productivity and its innovation exponential will increase, yet again.<p>What are your thoughts on the future of AI-powered copilots, what’s next?
Better tools do not make people be better. Just have a task done faster. The best hacker/ dev I know can code without an IDE. They only need a plain text editor and can tell how wrong the terminal is without Google.
