I will be starting a new job as infrastructure architect at a tech company/(some sort of MSP), after a long career (10 years) as Dev Tech Lead and then Regional Head of IT at a Oil and Gas company (!) and I am a bit nervous on how to start with the right foot at the new place.
I am looking mostly at advice in terms on how to quickly absorb the new culture and then become a good asset at the new employer, which is touted by several friends/new coworkers as a good company to be at.
What are your Do's and Don'ts in these times when you start remote at a new job?
Show up to all meetings early. This gives you an opportunity to banter with people who are also early. The 1-2 minutes allow for easy chitchat so you can get to know your coworkers.
Make sure you’ve got a good microphone. It’s the primary communication channel between you and your coworkers and the better you sound the easier it is to connect.
If you work remotely you do need to put more effort in order to meet new people, do take each and every opportunity to do so - and maybe try to create some new ones.
Writing clearly and thoroughly is important in remote work. Take extra time when doing so in all the places from slack, to story sections, and docs.
Typical new job stuff still applies of course.
