I'd be interested to know how much people here sleep for ideal work / life results.
If I get less than 6 hours, I don't really consider myself rested such that I can respond well to a normal schedule.
If I get 6 hours, I'll feel rested, but also tend to be over-executive. It looks and feels like productivity for that reason, but I notice that I can't set healthy boundaries as well. I more easily skip over most of the introspective parts of my work processes, and tend to get migraines more easily. It's also harder for me to get back to sleep, e.g. for a nap.
If I get 6.5 to 8.5 hours, I'm generally screwed or sorta-OK (8 to 8.5) until I can get a nap in.
If I get 9 hours I'm just about in my best work-life balance zone. I don't take work too seriously, but I can also sit down at work, plan, commit, and follow up. At this level of sleep I can almost always skip a nap and feel good throughout the day.
If I get 10 or more hours of sleep, I'm generally screwed.
This obvs leaves out aspects like how much deep sleep, the effect of meditation opportunities, what is considered work, how one uses one's subjective psychology or how well one sets boundaries, the use of medication to mediate the troubles, etc.
How many hours do you need? How much is too much for you, and how did you find that out?
